The City Breathes in Fragments
A Cidade Respira em Fragmentos
In this painting I sought to portray New York as a living body, fragmented by rain, traffic and speed. I was inspired by the sensation of seeing the city through water and motion. I wanted to convey an interrupted rhythm, where the eye builds the image in parts. I use a semi-figurative, semi-abstract style to suggest rather than show, with lines and impasto creating texture and making the city almost tactile.
