Lisbon – Architecture of Memory

Lisboa – Arquitetura da Memória

Acrylic Palette Knife painting90 × 50 cmHeight × width · canvas

In this painting, I sought to capture not merely a view of Lisbon, but the way memory reshapes the city itself. The rooftops are fragmented into geometric planes, while the National Pantheon rises as an almost timeless presence, suspended between reality and recollection.

Unlike many of my other series, my urban landscapes are created primarily with brushes and wide brushes, allowing me to build successive layers of colour, transparency and structure. The vertical lines crossing the composition suggest movement, the passing of time and multiple perspectives, while the geometric elements evoke fragments of an image constantly being reconstructed.

I am interested in exploring the tension between order and spontaneity, between the physical architecture of the city and the emotional architecture of memory. Lisbon appears here not simply as a place, but as an experience shaped by light, identity and remembrance.
