The Promise of the Horizon
Dois Olhares, Um Horizonte
Two figures stand hand in hand by the sea as one points towards the sailboats on the horizon. I was drawn to this simple gesture of discovery — that fleeting moment when someone draws our attention to something in the distance and, for an instant, two people share the same direction of sight.
I worked primarily with a palette knife, building the surface through texture, relief and successive fragments of the image. Geometric divisions and vertical lines subtly cross the figures, sea and sky, suggesting a memory being reconstructed, as though time had already begun to transform the moment.
The luminosity, the movement of the dress and the calmness of the sea evoke the freedom of summer. Yet the horizon carries a wider meaning: it becomes a metaphor for discovery, possibility and everything still waiting to be lived — the distant places we first learn to imagine when someone points towards them.
